  • Tonsilitis, pharyngitis, sinusitis, epiglottitis, laryngitis

Risk factors:

  • Contact: overcrowding, school, daycare, travel, congregations
  • Immunity, nutrition, age, smoking, immune status


  • Nasopharynx: Rhinovirus, parainfluenza, RSV, adeno, corona, influenza viruses
  • Oropharynx: Group A Strep,
  • Epiglottitis: H. influenzae
  • Larynx-trachea: Para influenza, staph aureus
  • Bronchi: influenza, Strep pneumoniae, H. influenza


  • Rhinits: pharyngitis, tonsilitis, otitis media, septicaemia, nasal polyps
